It does not mean that heroes must have super powers like those stated in fantasy books. They can also be people that contributed extensively to a country or the world, one example will be Sir Winston Churchill. During World War II times, Churchill was put in charge of the Navy, just like in World War I. In 1940 the war was bad for Britain, and the current Prime Minister resigned, so Churchill was given the job. Due to the bad situation, some people believe Britain could not win the war, and they should sign a treaty with Hitler. Churchill was sure that Britain could win, and promised to continue the fight. He made famous speeches that are still remembered today. An example of his speech can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6llT2ZYg-4E. Even though many Britons wanted to negotiate with Hitler's Germany for peace, Churchill refused to an armistice with Germany. by doing so, Churchill kept resistance alive in the British Empire and created the basis for the later Allied counter-attacks of 1942–45, with Britain serving as a platform for the supply of Soviet Union and the liberation of Western Europe. Churchill's speeches were a great inspiration to the embattled British. His first speech as Prime Minister was the famous "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat".

For the part of super powers, i dont really agree with group 8 point of view about that, the hero stated here count on their own skills and their responsibility, thus the part that states," it does not mean that heroes must have super power like those stated in fantasy book" doesnt make any sense at all", it doesnt tell anything about heroes, thus this part is not necessary.
ReplyDeleteBut for the other part which says Sir Winston Churchill kept resistence alive in the British Empire and created the basis for the later Allied counter attacks of 1942-1945,this proves that Winston Churchill did a good part by being resistence, he did not give up easily,he also thought of good ideas to succeed. This really show what a real hero will do, thus i agree with group 8's point of view that Sir Winston Churchill.
In conclusion, although i think that group 8's view is not really detailed, but it still emphasized on the main point, whereby how Sir Winston Churchill contributed, making him a real hero.Lastly, the part for the definition is not very elaborative, they should not plagiarise by cutting and pasting information directly, like the definition part from www.dictionary.com
